Gregory Conrad Burrows, the fourth of nine children, was born November 5th, 1959 to Herbert and Doris Burrows of Podoleo Street,
Nassau, Bahamas. He obtained his early education at Claridge Primary’ School and Highbury School, which later became RM Bailey
Senior High School from which he graduated in June1977. Mr. Burrows also attributes his success to his wife. Elizabeth Burrows,
They are the proud parents of two sons, Gregory Burrows Jr. and Adam Conrad Burrows
Mr. Burrows’ (Greg) first passion is baseball. He is the founder of Freedom Farm Baseball League and the Founder and President of
the newly formed Bahamas Baseball Federation. Greg created the Freedom Farm League because of the love of the sport of baseball.
He can be found every Saturday from 10 a.m., January through November, teaching the sport of baseball at the Freedom
Farm Baseball Fields in Yamacraw Beach Estates.
The Freedom Farm Baseball League actually began on a small farm owned by his wife’s uncle on Joe Farrington Road, named
Freedom Farm, where Mr. Burrows first began teaching the game to his oldest son Greg Jr. and some of his friends. The number
of youngsters involved grew and Mr. Burrows began putting teams together to play friendly games. Eventually, with the help
of his employers, family, friends and the support of the children’s parents, Mr. Burrows turned the small farm into a little league
baseball haven, where anyone passing by on a Saturday morning would see children playing baseball in the middle of cows,
horses and sheep.
After a few seasons the Farm became too small and an aggressive development program began at
a property in Yamacraw Beach Estates. This is where the third wave’ of ball players made their
start, including Greg’s second son Adam With the help of parents, players and close friend the
league has developed four fields.
The League’s main objective is to teach the game of baseball, for players to develop positive attitudes, discipline, and confidence
through team work and obtain a higher level of education using the sport of baseball as its vehicle. “I would like to see my dream
of baseball continue through these young players, playing college ball and continuing on to the major leagues. I honestly believe
that with the high standard of play at Freedom Farm Baseball League we can continue to achieve our motto which is “Higher education
through the sport of baseball”.Mr. Burrow is now in his third year as President of The Baseball Federation. One of his goals as
Federation President is to see the duplication of leagues like Freedom Farm throughout the Bahamas.
